Week of October 3, 2011

Happy October!!!  I hope this finds you all doing well.  It seems like fall came in a hurry.  It has been a mad dash to get out the long pants and long sleeve shirts at my house.  Please check the weather daily, the fourth graders go outside for recess on cool days.  We remind them to take their jackets/sweatshirts outside with them.  Last week, many kids told me that they didn't wear either.  As the days get cooler, I worry that they will get cold.

Our first math test has been completed.  I finished up interventions on them Friday.  We have been working on multiplication facts and are moving forward this week.  We will be taking a look at addition and subtraction word problems.  In science, we are finishing up the process skills.  We will have a quiz on Thursday.  Just a reminder, Interim Reports will be sent home on Friday.  This is a way for you to see how your child is doing so far.  It's a way for us to check in with each other.

Here is the homework for the week....subject to change if necessary.  Have a GREAT week!

Here Comes March....

What a busy week!! Our class handled all of the changes in schedule very well. I'm happy to report that next week will be a regular week. We are just hoping for a little sunshine. We will be back to Reading Street. Unit 4 looks very interesting with some mysteries as a new genre for us. Students will be back to spelling and vocabulary as well. I can't wait to do some comparing and contrasting for our target skill. During the review unit, I gave the students a novel to read. Those were finished today. On Monday, I am giving them a fun "book report" to do on the book. Those will be due on Tuesday, March 8, 2011. I am looking forward to seeing their creative sides and artwork.

Math has had its ups and downs this quarter. I completed additional intervention on Unit 5 with estimation and multiplication last week. Please keep reviewing rounding with your child. The Unit 6 test on long division was much better. We are going to go over the test on Monday. I was very impressed with their division. March is bringing a new math unit. We will start Unit 7 on Tuesday. This unit will start with fractions.

Stay warm and dry!

Week of January 24, 2011

It seems like FOREVER since we have been at school. With the holiday last Monday and then two snow days, the two day week was like a mini-vacation. We have a lot to do in the next few weeks. I'm happy to report that our DIBELS scores looked good. I will get the official numbers in time for conferences, but everyone did well. The math test that was scheduled for last Thursday, WILL be Monday, January 24th. It will no longer be on second quarter, but moved to third quarter since report cards are due in this week. With that said, they will not be coming home on Friday. The date has been moved to Tuesday, February 1st. Also, conferences are upon us. They are February 2nd and 9th. That information was sent home last week. Times will be given and sent home on Wednesday. We are back to Reading Street this week. We will begin working on Unit 3, Week 3 in the morning. Just a reminder, the fourth graders will be taking the NAEP on Wednesday. Have a GREAT week!
